Söderenergi produces district heating for some 300 000 persons, offices and industries in the southern part of greater Stockholm, and enough electricity to power 100,000 homes. Söderenergi employs approx:160 people. Our largest plants are the Igelsta plant, IGV, and Igelsta combined heat and power plant, IKV, in Södertälje, as well as the Fittja plant in Botkyrka. Most of our heat production is sold and delivered by Telge Nät in Södertälje and Nykvarn, and by Södertörn’s Fjärrvärme in Huddinge, Botkyrka and Salem. We also supply heating to Stockholm Exergi AB in Stockholm. The host plant, IKV, is Sweden’s second largest biomass-powered combined power and heating plant, and an ideal location for a BECCS facility. There is enough space and energy for the process and we have easy access to our own port. Our goal is to build a BECCS facility ready to capture carbon dioxide and start restoring the climate by 2030.
By 2030 around 500 000 tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide can be captured and stored yearly from the combined heating and power plant, IKV. That corresponds to the combined emissions from the three municipalities that own Söderenergi.
This procurement for a BECCS facility consists of several phases, where Söderenergi will select contractors in the following steps, in order to ensure competition for as long as possible and at the same time ensuring the best possible solution for Söderenergi. This procedure is designed based on the fact that there are few examples regarding the area covered by the procurement.
