Background to the procurement

The department of Physics has a project within which they measure electron binding energies of negative ions by laser photodetachment close to the threshold. Their cw Ti:Sapphire laser system has a bandwidth of about 1 MHz, but currently the limiting factor of our experiment is the 100 MHz uncertainty of the absolute laser frequency. A High-Precision wavemeter with an absolute uncertainty of less than 5 MHz will thus immediately improve their results very significantly.
