Flow-cytometer

The Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences is planning to buy a flow cytometer. The scientific questions we are addressing are related to diversity, functions and interactions of aquatic microorganisms.

We will use this instrument to count aquatic cells and their viruses from lakes and ocean. It is important not only to count them but also to obtain general information about size and internal complexity. Moreover, many cells from these environments are small (~2-3um) so the flow cytometer must be able to detect cells with these sizes.
