1 About the contracting institution

The institution´s premises are mainly located in the Arrhenius laboratories together with the other chemistry institutions and other institutions in "Life Science". More than 200 people, including about 80 doctoral students, are currently employed by the department. The research spans a wide area and is within many of the projects of the highest world class. The department also has a strong connection to the Science for Life Laboratory. The research that is conducted is unique in Sweden and also in the world through its interdisciplinary nature and spans a very wide area including cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics and theory. For more information about our business, see our website www.dbb.su.se.

2 Goals and purpose

The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics wishes to purchase a camera to be installed on an electrophysiology setup, to enable the visualization and identification of cells during patch-clamp electrophysiology experiments.

3 Requirement specification

A new camera is required to form part of an electrophysiology setup for the performance of brain slice patch-clamp electrophysiology. The camera must be suitable for visualizing cells and tissue using both DIC and fluorescence imaging (using standard green and red fluorophores in the visible spectrum). It must have a pixel array size of at least 1024x1024, a high quantum efficiency (ideally at least 75%) and a frame rate of at least 20 frames per second to allow smooth and responsive visualization of the cells and electrodes. The camera must be able to attach to a Zeiss Axio Examiner microscope and must be compatible with Micromanager software. As the camera will be installed around other hardware comprising a typical electrophysiology setup, it must be equipped with a grounding connection to enable electrical isolation, must have fanless cooling to avoid vibration disturbance, must have dimensions no greater than 12x9x9 cm, and must be able to connect to a PC via USB.

The product must be delivered within two months of order placement.
