Linköpings Universitet Ellipsometry module

Ellipsometry module

Linköpings universitet, Linköping

Scope

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM) uses ellipsometry both for routine sample verification in fixed angle and wavelength setups, and as a tool for detailed structural studies with variable-angle spectroscopic equipment. We are now extending the use of ellipsometry to online measurements during neutron reflectometry experiments for studies of solid/liquid interfaces.

Neutron reflectometry is performed at large-scale facilities producing neutrons. Users travel to the facilities to carry out experiments that typically last for a few days, and where the equipment is operated 24h/day. To enable ellipsometric measurements at such beamlines, a high degree of automation and portability is required of the setup, and severe space limitations at some neutron reflectometry beamlines require a compact ellipsometer setup.

IFM needs a new modular spectroscopic ellipsometry system, consisting of separate source and receiver modules, to be mounted on a custom-made frame integrating a liquid cell. The source and receiver modules will be mounted on plane surfaces, with holes as required, on the sides facing the sample. The system will be operated at fixed angles in the range 60°-70° from the surface normal. Due to the severe space restrictions at some beamlines, the physical dimensions of the device are critical.

The tender must be a brand new ellipsometry system.
